Grandchildren's eulogy

Created by Anne 4 years ago

Hi everyone, thank you for coming. We are 6 out of Lewis and Eve’s 9 grandchildren. Unfortunately Jeremy is in New York and Ishai and Roi are in Israel and are unable to be with us tonight. They send their love.

One of grandpa’s favourite songs that he sang was A You’re Adorable. This song covers every letter of the alphabet describing a person who they love. We have re-adapted the song to describe grandpa.

A is for animals - grandpa had a love of animals, in particular his pets including Melanie, Marmaduke and Sally, and his granddogs, Salsa and Latte.
B is for Bernard. Despite tragically losing his older brother in his 20’s, grandpa strived to honour his legacy through continuing supporting the bernard lustig scholarship, funding the education of young jews in our community.
C is for chess: grandpa was the master chess player in the family. It was a tradition after friday night Shabbat dinners for grandpa to challenge a family member to a game of chess, usually resulting in him winning.
D is for dedication. Whenever grandma has been in hospital, grandpa made sure he was there daily looking after her.
E is for Eve. The most important person in grandpa’s life.
F is for fantales. Grandpa ‘s favourite lolly was a fantale. he kept a secret stash of them in the top cupboard of his kitchen to give to us when we came over as children.
G is for generous. Grandpa used to save coins he had collected in a big jar. The grandkids used to spend hours counting and divvying them up.
H is for heritage. Grandpa was extremely proud of where his family came from, and ensured we knew our family history and relatives.
I is for intellectual - grandpa’s knowledge was extensive, and he always knew specific details of a subject matter.
J is for judaism. Grandpa felt strongly connected to his religion, always standing up to say friday night kiddush, regardless of his health. He was extremely proud of the Torah that his family smuggled out of germany, which still resides in this Shule.

K is for kindness. Grandpa displayed kindness to his family, friends and community.
L is for love. The love grandma and grandpa share for each other was so special. They always held hands, and told each other how much they loved one another.
M is for memories. We loved looking through photo albums together with grandpa from his earlier days, and listening to him describe his life when he was younger.
N is for nicknames- grandpa had funny nicknames for everyone in the family, that will live on
O is for ordering - grandpa would be in charge of the menu for the whole family at a restaurant, thankfully resulting in a delicious meal.
P is for point lonsdale. Grandpa’s decision to buy a holiday house 26 years ago has meant we have enjoyed a lifetime of memories together at the beach, full of fond times.
Q is for quizzes. Grandpa loved asking us all little questions and riddles, often with inappropriate punchlines.
R is for royal melbourne show -  when Jeremy went to the royal melbourne show with grandma and grandpa when he was 8, he came home with 5 showbags in his hand and told his parents it was the greatest day of his life.
S is for symmetry - grandpa was one of three children, he has three children, who each have three children.
T is for tennis- one of grandpa’s true passions in life, in which he enjoyed winning trophies, just as much as he enjoyed playing the sport with his family.
U is for unique. Grandpa brought a unique mind to situations, which always resulted in problems being solved.
V is for victoria bitter - grandpa’s favourite drink.
W is for witty- grandpa was great on the spot, and never failed to make us laugh.
X is for xray- grandpa ensured we didn’t need an xray on our teeth, because he ensured we looked after them, following his career as a dentist.
Y is for Yoyo. one of grandpa’s many skills was with a yoyo in hand, which he loved to show off to his grandkids.
Z is for Zionism. Grandpa was very proud of my mum’s Aliyah to Israel, and always loved coming to visit us.
Grandpa, we’ll miss your humour, love and care, but your legacy will live on through all of us. We love you and miss you.
